Looking back at the years of 2022 and 2023 with the problems of the wireless microphones during a city parade. • @stageleftaudio

      Each channel of the gate connects to a separate input on the console. The console has an input on it called "INSERT". This is where the gate is connected. The gate is connected using a special cable called an "insert cable". In one of the previous videos I did at the Blue Note Grill, I cover how the gate is connected... unfortunately, I do not recall which video that is.

      Those cable mats are made of rubber. Their original size was 2ft x 4ft long. I cut the mats down the middle (the length of the mat), to make two cables mats from one. I picked up those mats at one of the big box stores... those mats are actually door/floor runners. Check the big box stores for rubberized door/floor runners. They were somewhat inexpensive when I bought them. I've had them for about 12 years now.

      That "heat shield" is just a tarp. The tarp is black on one side and silver on the other. The silver side is facing up, which reflects the radiation away. Amazing sound, clarity is phenomenal, do you have any tips for mixing a bass drum that is sealed and not ported?

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 9 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment. The best way to handle a non-ported bass drum is to mic it on the peddle side. You will get the "slap" of the beater hitting the drum along with the low frequency of the drum. I normally mic bass drums (including ported) in this manner if there is room to place the mic. Just make sure the mic is pointed directly at the area where the beater strikes the drum. Mixing the bass drum becomes a lot easier with good mic placement.

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 11 днів тому

      Everything can be daisy-chained, however, the "hops" (more is not good) in the network, will result in more latency of the signal, which can be a bad thing if running IE monitors. Connecting the Earmix systems to the switch will greatly reduce latency and may even simplify the setup.

    How many rack spaces to the Stage box take up. Also what gauge are your cables. They are thick

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 11 днів тому

      The 16.8 uses a 4U space. The Ethercon cables are Cat-6a; the cable structure is considered "tactical", which makes them thick. The tactical style of the cable is due to the jacketing; these are very robust compared to non-tactical cable.

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 13 днів тому

      If the faders are not moving by themselves, when they should be moving, it probably could be the motor that drives that fader. It's unfortunate, but ALL consoles that have motorized faders, will eventually need a replacement of the motors. If the faders are not moving when you try to move them manually (this is highly unlikely), there could be something under the mixing surface that is stopping the faders from moving.

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 13 днів тому

      The "SL" stickers are 2" vinyl; I don't recall where I got those (it was online). I ordered several sheets of "S" and "L" and put them together. For the "Allen & Heath" black/white sticker, this is just a 3/4" (white on black) thermal label printed from a Dymo label maker. All of the labels I use on my cases are low-cost (easily replaceable) solutions. It's cheaper to do this than pay for custom lettering/images. Much of the lettering on the cases gets torn up; it's easy to replace the damaged lettering with "over the counter" solutions.

    Bob, did you record the band with a SSD drive through ST3? How was the quality?

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 13 днів тому

      Yes, I did record the band (at their request), however, I used a (USB) HDD for the recording. After some testing (and research) with SSD devices, they do not work well (they work, but there's far too many errors with the recordings). The problem with SSD is there's no cache. Whereas, HDD devices have caching, which greatly helps with streaming inputs onto the device. I tested various SSD devices with the console; all had excessive errors. SSD is convenient, but is not a good recording medium for the QU mixer. The HDD I used in the video is a 1TB USB 2.0 drive (I bought in 2012). It has recorded several shows. The recording quality seems very good. Like any recording, the gain needs to be set appropriately. I gave the recordings to the band for them to do their own mix-down. For contrast, the Presonus consoles I have all use 32G SD cards; they too produce great recordings, however, any caching taking place is managed by the console (not the recording medium). Hope this helps!

    Just curious as to why you haven't set up the tops at either side of the stage as opposed to inside, resulting in some backwash from the tops and blocking band members? The QU is a great desk which I bought new in 2014 and only sold a couple of years ago as I had moved full time over to the QU-SB. I always used an iPad with the QU-16 inside or out as it was easier to see some of the gate/comp and EQ settings instead of looking at the small onboard screen. Using an iPad is a must for going out and listening to the act from all areas where people will be watching from, just takes the guesswork out of it. Sounds good. :)

      @@leeroysilk Looks to me like they are under the tent and away from the edges so a little blowing rain won't affect them but I could be wrong. Bet we will get a definitive answer real soon. LOL

      Thanks for all the comments! Yes, the speakers are placed just under the tent in case of rain, which was originally forecasted to start about an hour before they were scheduled to end. And we most certainly did not want to be trying to move speakers in a rush during the show!

    You use AUX fed sub on that 8004? What crossover?

    • @johndeal1624

      I think he said the sub was feed from the main outs and used the sub's built-in crossover in the sub for the tops.

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 14 днів тому

      Yes, you are correct! The sub was fed direct from the console (no xover); we used the xover in the sub for the tops. As well, we do not use AUX fed subs. Thanks for the comments.

      @@stageleftaudioI run Aux fed subs myself, through a DBX PA2. Especially for outdoor shows!

    Can you show us how to reset a crown? i have a crown macrotech 5000i, but i cant find videos of how to reset it

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 18 днів тому

      You may want to look at the Audio Architect software. This is the software that is used to manage the amplifiers (just like in the video). I think there is an option in the software to reset the amplifier. The software is free to download from Crown. As of this comment, I think the software version is 2.55.

    Ive watched your video 3 times and I've done absolutley everything you said and I ONLY need a mix 1-2 Linked for a aux mix BUT I Can't hear it out my Mix 1-2 XLR's from the back of my console to my headphone amp? Please Help I'm pretty sure I've done it correctly..? thanks Billy

      Setting up an aux mix is fairly straight forward. If you were to unlink the aux-mix (1&2), and treat them as separate aux mixes, route your input to either or both aux mixes. Can you hear your signal through either aux mix (using your headphone amp)? If not, are you able to attach an amp/speaker (or a powered speaker) to the aux-mix(s) outputs and test for signal. If the aux-mixes work for an attached powered speaker (or amp/speaker), the problem may reside in your head-phone amp. Some things to check: 1. Are you using an analog setup with your console? If so, make sure the input you selected is set for "analog" on the "Input" section of the Fat Channel. 2. Make sure the aux mix master fader is turned up. If you are linking aux-1/aux-2, the master fader control will cover both aux-mixes. 3. Make sure your aux-mixes are all set to "PRE" in their setup. Let us know what you find.

    What frequencies are you using? The fact that it used to work but in the past few years has had issues, sounds like 5g. In the past few years 5g has been coming online. Wireless microphones can no longer operate above 608 MHz or tv 36. If you are in a higher frequency in the UHF band you can and probably will get inference from 5G. If you are not in that range, I think you are on the right path. Getting the receive antennas up over people and line of sight. A shark fin / paddle antenna might help because it has gain in the direction it is pointing.

      Thanks for the comment. The frequency band we use is between the high 400 and mid 500mhz range. The issue is the amount of people that are collecting at the corner, in addition to the MC not moving around. In previous parades, we've never had the number of people at the corner that is there now. I'm currently working on a taller tower for the receivers, and to have the taller tower closer to the MC.

    HOW TO ASSIGN DELAY IN THIS CONSOULE .... NO FX ... AM FACING VIDEO AND AUDIO SYNK PROBLEM ... VIDEO SENDING TO SOME OTHER HARDWARE AND OUTPUT IN MONITOR BUT AUDIO SEND DIRECTLY TO THAT MONITOR .... SO I WANT TO SYNK ..... IS POSSSIBLE

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio 26 днів тому

      This console does not have a built-in delay. If you need delay, it would need to come from an external device (digital delay device).
